Joshua Nathan was raised on a farm in the Mennonite village of Moundridge, Kansas. After two years at Bethel College on a football scholarship he transferred to the University of Kansas to study film. He made the move to Los Angeles to crew on Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER and worked on a number of Anderson's sets (he even had a small acting role in LICORICE PIZZA). He studied under Werner Herzog at his Rogue Film School. Later Joshua received his MFA as a Directing Fellow from The American Film Institute.

Joshua's films have played on PBS, and around the world, including at the AFI Fest, Nashville Film Festival, and the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival. His feature script, 'Trawler,' was selected to participate in the 2024 Stowe Narrative Lab in Vermont.

Alongside his personal film projects, Joshua also works as a commercial director, with clients including Warner Brothers, Amazon, and New Balance.
